Bicycling

No matter what type of bicycling you do, ShockTape can help you ride longer. The versatile nature of ShockTape allows it to be installed to perfectly match your preferred grip and riding style. For rough courses like historic cobblestone sections of the Paris-Roubaix race, ShockTape provides much needed cushioning. For UltraMarathon Cycling events, the ergonomic deflection of ShockTape reduces painful pressure points. And for all types of mountain bicycling events, ShockTape provides a unique customizable bar grip.

Due to the diverse types of cycling styles, grips and techniques, we don’t offer a single best recommendation for how to install ShockTape on bicycle handlebars. Instead, we’ve compiled a number of different recommended options from our team of experienced test cyclists. We recommend that you experiment and find the best grip that works for you. One 40” roll of ShockTape can cover up to 4 bicycles depending on how you choose to install it. ShockTape can be cut to any shape using scissors or a utility knife.

ShockTape is designed to last for years of riding as long as it is protected from UV by an overwrap. Unlike foams and other cushioning tapes it will not flatten out or harden over time. This means that you can re-wrap your bars and leave the underlying ShockTape in place.

Road Bicycling Installation Instructions – Option 1 – Maximum cushioning – Wrap the ShockTape completely around your primary grip areas.

Installation Instructions:

1. Remove the old bar tape and clean bar surfaces. Remove as much adhesive and residue as possible. Rubbing alcohol works well for this.
2. Starting with the tapered end of the tape, gradually removing the adhesive backing. Some tension can be applied to the tape during wrapping, but over stretching can cause the tape to tear.
3. Cut the end of the tape at a tapered angle to finish the grip section.

4. Repeat for next area of the handlebar.

5. Apply an overwrap tape such as cork, composite, ribbon, Cello or leather tape.

6. Now you're ready to ride!

Road Bicycling Installation Instructions – Option 2 – Targeted Comfort – Apply strips of ShockTape to the top of your primary grip areas.

Installation Instructions:

1. Remove the old bar tape and clean bar surfaces. Remove as much adhesive and residue as possible. Rubbing alcohol works well for this.
2. Cut the ShockTape into sections that will fit on the top of your primary grip areas.
3. Remove the adhesive backing.

4. Apply the tape to the desired area and apply firm pressure.

5. Repeat for next area of the handlebar.

6. Apply an overwrap tape such as cork, composite, ribbon, Cello or leather tape.

7. Now you're ready to ride!
